Hedgerows are an iconic part of our landscape and support a myriad of creatures from invertebrates to mammals and birds. Beyond the benefits they bring to wildlife, hedgerows play an important role on farmland, ensuring soils remain healthy.
Hedgerows act as a barrier at field margins, preventing soil from being lost through run off. The deep root structures of hedges and trees also help to keep soil in place, reducing the risk of erosion. Furthermore, the diverse range of plant life in hedges stores carbon, helping to combat climate change.
With the and Sustainable Farming Incentive and the Capital Grant schemes providing funding for hedgerow assessment, planting, and management, what's not to like?! This half-day event will feature:
Rebecca Inman (FWAG East) providing an overview of funding for hedgerows.
A workshop with Nigel Adams (Hedgelink) demonstrating how to ‘read’ a hedgerow, to inform management decisions.
A farm walk with Andrew Manning sharing his experiences of creating and managing hedgerows at Ramridge Farm.
Refreshments and a buffet lunch will be provided.
